What Does Transmission Fluid Do?
As mentioned above, transmission fluid keeps the transmission cool and lubricated. There are also many ways that it can benefit your vehicle. These include:
- Allows your engine to shift gears easily
- Provides hydraulic pressure
- Prevents corrosion, rust, and wear
- Controls foam
What Is a Transmission Fluid Exchange?
Transmission fluid exchange is a mechanic service, where they flush out the old transmission fluid and replace it with fresh fluid. To clean all of the transmission debris, they force chemicals to clear it out entirely through the system. Once the transmission is clean and free of old transmission fluid, it would be filled with new, clean fluid.
What Happens If You Don't Have Your Fluid Exchanged?
If you don't have your transmission fluid exchanged regularly, it can cause issues with your transmission. Over time, the friction and heat inside the transmission cause the fluid to break down. When this happens, it won't work the way that it should. Old transmission fluid can also contain deposits that can affect the way that your vehicle drives. Over time, the constant heat and friction can cause irreparable damage to the transmission.
