Toyota offers two engines for the 2024 Tacoma range. The first engine, the i-FORCE unit, is a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit. This engine makes 228 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque in the base SR trim. It is available with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. The manual transmission features automatic rev-matching and anti-stall technology.

On other trims, the same engine is retuned to develop 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque when paired with the eight-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can also choose the six-speed manual option. Here, engine outputs drop to 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.

Buyers can also pick the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain in higher trims. This uses the same turbocharged engine, now paired with an electric motor. Total outputs jump to 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is the only gearbox choice.

The 2024 Tacoma range can be had with rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive. But some trims are exclusively four-wheel-drive. Rear-wheel-drive variants have an automatic limited-slip differential, while four-wheel-drive variants add an electronically controlled transfer case.
