Power-folding mirrors come to some models and the XLE and XSE trims each get a hands-free power-operated rear liftgate.

History of the Toyota Highlander

The Highlander was first introduced to North America in 2001 as one of the first car based crossovers to ever hit the market. The vehicle was an immediate hit and for a brief time the Highlander was Toyota's best-selling SUV before being replaced by the RAV4 around 2006. The Highlander became known for its roomy and well-appointed interior that held a virtual laundry list of standard and available equipment.

Toyota redesigned the Highlander for the 2008 model year. This model Highlander saw an increase in interior room, a standard V6 power plant under the hood and a larger third row seat.
