Performance and Handling
The 2012 Toyota Corolla packs 132 horsepower in a 1.8L 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i). This Ultra Low Emission Vehicle II (ULEV-II) sports a front-wheel drivetrain, an independent MacPherson strut front suspension with stabilizer bar and torsion beam rear suspension with rear stabilizer bar, power-assisted ventilated front disc brakes and rear drum brakes with Star Safety System, electronic ignition system with Toyota Direct Ignition (TDI), and Electric Power Steering (EPS) with power-assisted rack-and-pinion. The Corolla is available in three different trims - the L, S and LE. The L and S trims have the option of either a 4-speed Electronically Controlled automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) that gets 26 mpg city/34 mpg highway, or a 5-speed manual transmission that gets 27 mpg city/34 mpg highway. The LE is only available with the 4-speed ECT-i. | |

Exterior & Interior Features
The 2012 Corolla L features multi-reflector headlights; color-keyed front grille surround, power outside mirrors and outside door handles; chrome rear license plate garnish; intermittent windshield wipers; in-glass AM/FM antenna; and 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers and P195/65R15 89S tires. Move up to the LE trim for heated outside mirrors; variable intermittent windshield wipers with mist cycle; and 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers and P205/55R16 89H tires. The LE offers an option package that includes integrated fog lamps, a power tilt/slide moonroof with sliding sunshade and a roof-mounted SiriusXM antenna. The S trim includes several unique features: black headlamp sport trim; integrated fog lamps; color-keyed underbody spoilers, sport side rocker panels, rear spoiler and unique S badging; heated outside mirrors; chrome-tipped exhaust; and 16-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, as well as the moonroof and SiriusXM antenna as separate options.
Inside, the Corolla L has a filtered air conditioner; an AM/FM/CD four-speaker sound system with MP3/WMA playback capability, an auxiliary audio jack and auto sound leveling; a multi-information display with trip computer; fabric-trimmed front seats with six-way adjustable driver's seat and four-way adjustable front passenger seat; a fabric-trimmed 60/40 split fold-down rear seat; tilt/telescopic steering wheel; remote keyless illuminated entry; and power windows and locks. Options for the L include an upgraded six-speaker sound system with USB port, iPod connectivity and Bluetooth hands-free calling; and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. These come standard on the LE, along with cruise control. Options include a touchscreen navigation/audio system with HD Radio with iTunes tagging and SiriusXM capability with three-month trial subscription, as well as steering-wheel mounted Bluetooth phone controls. The S trim also offers the upgraded navigation/audio system as an option, along with unique standard features like a sport steering wheel, sport fabric-trimmed seating and sport instrumentation. | |

Safety Features
All 2012 Toyota Corolla trims include the Toyota Star Safety System, which includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Smart Stop Technology (SST). At speeds greater than 5 miles per hour, when the accelerator is depressed first and the brakes are then applied firmly for longer than 0.5 seconds, Smart Stop Technology is designed to help the driver bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The Corolla sports six airbags, including driver and front passenger Advanced Airbag System, driver and front passenger seat-mounted side airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags, as well as driver and front passenger active headrests. Other safety features include three-point seatbelts for all seats, child-protector rear door locks, LATCH system for children, collapsible steering column, energy-absorbing crumple zones, Daytime Running Lights and Tire Pressure Monitor System.
