Available in Prius II, Prius, III, Prius IV, and Prius V trim levels, the 2011 Prius gets its power from a 98-horsepower 1.8-liter aluminum DOHC 4-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) paired with a 80-horsepower permanent magnet AC synchronous electric motor and a 36-horsepower Sealed Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) traction battery. All of these power sources combine to give the Prius a net power of 134 horsepower. The only transmission is an Electronically Controlled continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT). Also included on all Prius models are 4 different driving modes (labeled Normal, Eco, Power, and EV) that allow drivers to choose the best powertrain configuration for the current driving conditions. Obviously, though, the most notable thing about the Prius is its fuel efficiency. This hatchback achieves up to 51 city/48 highway MPG with a combined EPA fuel economy rating of 50 MPG, the very best number of any conventional hybrid vehicle on the market.

Prius Safety Features
Standard on all Toyota vehicles, the Star Safety System includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Smart Stop Technology (SST) that automatically reduces engine power when both the brake and accelerator pedals are pressed at the same time. No more turning your cruise control on and off because of cars speeding up and slowing down in front of you: Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) matches your speed to the car ahead, eliminating brake tapping. Integrated into the navigation system, the backup camera keeps your fenders dent-free by displaying an image of what is behind you. Lane Keep Assist prevents your Prius from drifting into another lane by reading the lane markers and then applying torque to the steering wheel in order to keep you driving in the center of your lane. And if it looks like a crash may be imminent, the Pre-Collision System (PCS) kicks on, automatically tightening seatbelts and applying the brakes.
